Cultural Centre Calanda will occupy a plot historically occupied by the cinema Hoya, on the corner of Rue La Hoya and Cascajares Cardinal Square.
The site occupies a strategic position in the urban structure of Calanda given its proximity to the built most important historical and artistic municipality, which includes the Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady of Hope, and their role formal and spatial configurator Cascajares Cardinal square.
The key feature of the proposal for the Centre Socio-cultural nature of architecture is its compact, dense, with an organized system of empty spaces and facilitate both lighting and ventilation of the same, as seen in sections of the building . The reading of the longitudinal section explains the stratification and the relationship between different uses of the program, as well as the emphasis on natural light in the proposal.
The sections are presented as the generators of the building, concatenating spaces that look at each other in three directions in a kind of diagonal. The different areas are seen as interconnected spaces looking for the flexibility and adaptability to new needs and to escape the excessive spatial partitioning.
Given the corner of the site condition, the plant organization is characterized by the provision of a band of circulation spaces and service along with the medians, releasing the remaining space available for the main program areas: Auditorium, Library and Toy Library, and Parking. This spatial arrangement provides great flexibility in the use of different spaces, allowing for possible future changes in use.
